I've been taking a break from Kdramas for the past couple of weeks. I know. Who would have thought that would happen? This time away from Kdramas has led to some thoughts. I say I've spent time away from Kdramas but really. I still think about them more than an average person does. I will share my thoughts now.
Time jumps. One of the most hated Kdrama mechanisms but also one of the most frequently used. What if we experienced time jumps in real life? One minute you're happily getting along with your new boyfriend (think Coffee Prince) and the next you have been apart for a couple of years and are being reunited after growing intellectually and in maturity to become a better person overall and achieve self satisfaction.
On the other hand, what if things were going well in your life but you experienced a time jump and now your life is not what it once was? Will you have to build yourself up again with the help of a reluctant sidekick who will eventually turn into a lover or will you have to go at it alone? I'm sure once everything starts going smoothly for you there will be another time jump and you will be married to your lover with a kid or one on the way.
Nothing could ever go wrong with a time jump in real life right? It would go exactly the way it does in Kdramas and everything would be peachy in the end. Right? Wait a second. Would you actually remember everything that happened during the time jump if you had one in real life or would it be like waking up in the hospital with amnesia? You remember your life one way but people are telling you it is two years later and all of these changes have happened to you.
What do you think? Would real life time jumps be the same as Kdrama time jumps? Do you think you would remember everything that happened? Would you like it if you experienced one?
This series is getting so painful for me to watch that it took me two days to get through episode 9. Two. Days. I have second lead syndrome so bad right now it is ridiculous. It hurts us! Sigh.
Seriously. How could I not have second lead syndrome? It is inevitable.
Like I said, it took me two days to get through this episode so I'm not going to remember everything that happened. I'll just give a small summary of what I do remember and my opinion. Give me your thoughts too! I don't care if you disagree. Let's discuss this show, okay?
In episode 9 everyone was getting ready for Shi Woo's debut. Shi Woo was pushing himself really hard but trying to see Se Na whenever he could too. Wook told Se Na that he liked her but he wouldn't be in a relationship with her because she is Se Na. What's her name is jealous and Wook's dad is meddling as always. Producer Seo ruined Shi Woo's debut and Shi Woo got injured. A picture was taken of Se Na and Shi Woo while Se Na was visiting him at the hospital and it looks like their kissing. Jealous lady fired Se Na and when she told Wook she made it sound like Se Na knows about Wook's relationship with Se Na's sister and Wook gets very angry and goes to find Se Na. When Wook finds Se Na she wants to avoid him because she thinks he will be upset about the picture of her and Shi Woo.
I don't know guys. These episodes just feel like filler to me. Like, they could really condense it down. You know? I guess they need it to be 16 episodes, though, so they have to drag everything out. Could we at least throw some funny scenes in to make everything less painful? I'm in a lot of pain watching this show lately.
Why the pain? I can't get behind Se Na and Wook. Their chemistry is lacking big time for me. I just see them as brother and sister and have from the beginning. He has been taking care of her and helping her out so I can understand why Se Na has feelings for him but I can't get anything from Wook. It doesn't feel right. *SPOILER* From the very first episode of Answer Me 1994 or Reply 1994 I felt the chemistry between Trash and Na Jung despite their supposed brother/sister relationship and knew they'd end up together. *END SPOILER* I'm not feeling it between Wook and Se Na at all.
I love how sweet Shi Woo is with Se Na and the effort he is trying to make with her. They have those little arguments all the time that end up growing their relationship and it is adorable. I can see them being a couple. It's just there for them.
What do you guys think? I know I'm not the only one!
Bitches be crazy.
Episode 10! This episode was a lot better for me. I felt the chemistry a little bit more in this episode than I have in previous episodes. It finally clicked for me when Wook got so upset after Se Na confronted him at the end of the episode. I don't think I'll be able to get behind the relationship until Se Na knows the relationship between Wook and her sister though. That is part of the reason why I don't like that pairing. That Wook hasn't told her anything.
Look at that smile! I'm melting.
Shi Woo asked Se Na to write a song for him. I am looking forward to what they come up with! My heart is breaking for Shi Woo though. He will get dumped twice in this series. Hopefully he'll get a girl at the end or at least find happiness somewhere else.
What's her name just needs to stop. Like, I don't know why she can't get it in her head. Maybe seeing Wook break down finally got it through to her. She'll probably be on a path of revenge with Producer Seo (that's his name right?) now.
I think Wook's dad needs to explain everything sooner rather than later because he obviously isn't getting anywhere with Wook. Like, you keep saying you don't have much time but you aren't communicating. Just use your words. I don't think you're that bad of a guy.
We ended with Se Na telling Wook she can't like him anymore and Wook telling Se Na he'll be in a one sided love then. You know what is going to happen from here. They'll start their relationship and then everything will blow up when Se Na finds out who Wook is and at the end they'll happily get back together. Your thoughts?
How about if you bring those one-sided feelings this way?
This is very late. I could say that I've been busy but I haven't been THAT busy. I've just been putting off watching these episodes. I wasn't ready for what I knew was going down. I've watched them now, though, so let's get started!
I really like Rain's hair like that. Why is he so good looking?
Let's talk about episode 7 first! That was an episode wasn't it? What did ya'll think? I wasn't very into it myself. I'll be honest. The chemistry between Krystal and Rain seems very forced. Even the chemistry between Krystal and L seems forced even though I prefer that pairing. I'll just chalk it up to inferior acting skills. I'm still enjoying the drama but I'm not getting the lovey dovey feels I usually get.
Wook's dad got out of trouble for now. I don't think he is up to anything bad but he got caught giving gifts to another woman so he'll be in trouble again soon. I'm ready to see what Wook's dad's character is really like. I really wish he would communicate with his wife and tell her what he is up to but I guess that would be too easy.
We've got a lot of jealousy going on with what's her name and Se Na. Perfectly understandable. What's her name likes Wook but won't get him and he is hovering over Se Na and protecting her. She's just going to have to get over it because she won't get anywhere but that won't happen. Who's ready to see where her jealousy will lead her?
Shi Woo is determined to win so he decided not to go with Se Na's song. Se Na was upset but she took it surprisingly well. She didn't sulk too long and started trying to write another song. A lot of heroines in dramaland would have sulked way too long before doing that. I liked how Se Na called Shi Woo out on being drunk and hitting on girls when that happens. She's got him figured out for sure.
Wook will not accept his growing feelings for Se Na but we all know he likes her. Let's see what episode 8 brings!
I may not like the Wook/Se Na pairing but I don't mind watching them kiss!
Episode 8 was better for me than episode 7. Episode 7 almost seemed like filler. What can you do though? Sometimes we just need those filler episodes!
Se Na's song got picked up for a drama OST by g.o.d's Kim Tae Woo. *fangirl on* I've only listened to a few of g.o.d's songs but I've liked all of them. I did not, however, realize how cute Tae Woo is! I want to see more of him and hear more of his voice. I liked it. *fangirl off* Wook set all of that up, of course, because he wants Se Na to do well.
Wook's dad tried to tell him not to let Se Na come over anymore, to get rid of Dal Bong, and to move into his house and get ready for marriage. Um. Did you really think that would go well for you? Like, what were you thinking? Wook just walked away. I don't even know what to do with Wook's dad. He doesn't seem like that bad of a guy but then he says something like that and just ruins everything. Oh well. I'm sure he'll redeem himself later.
Let's see. What's her name tried to put the moves on Wook and it did not go well for her. Why can't she get it in her head that she has been permanently friend zoned? I would go so far as to say that she has been family zoned. Like, lady. You have zero chance. Take Wook's step mom's advice and stop barking up the wrong tree.
How stinkin' sweet was it when Shi Woo took Se Na to watch the fireworks? I mean. Come on! So sweet! Why do I have second lead syndrome so badly right now? This does not happen to me. Sigh. I need to wake up.
We got a kiss at the end of this episode! What do you think will happen next ya'll? I'm ready to see where this will go!
Oh yeah. That is why I have second lead syndrome. Just look at the cute! Look at it!
I don't know where to begin. I'm looking for good pictures of Lee Dong Wook but my eyes just go straight to his lips. Then they start glazing over and I can't think clearly. Sorry if these aren't the best pictures but you know that Lee Dong Wook's lips will look awesome!
I don't have to say anything right? Like, it is obvious why Lee Dong Wook was chosen for Yumday Monday. Just look at him!
You know what? I have had a hard time thinking of a recipe that goes with Lee Dong Wook so I thought to myself let's do an alcoholic beverage! Yes self. Alcohol is always good. I went back and forth trying to think of a drink that goes with Lee Dong Wook or one of his characters and finally thought of a rum and coke. It is a strong, sweet beverage just like his character in Blade Man. It will hit you by surprise if you have too many as well!
This whole week has been trying for me so I need some cheering up. To make myself feel better I thought I'd try my hand at meme and gif making. I'm using stills from shows that are starting soon. So here are some funny (to me at least) memes that may make your day at least a tiny bit better!
My not so creative juices are low tonight, guys. but I hope you at least got a little chuckle. Have a great weekend!
Sometimes we all need a good cry. I could use one right now but I have to be strong at this time to make those around me happy. Watching dramas gives me an outlet for the emotions that I can't normally let out and I'm grateful for that. So, when I need a good cry I either watch these dramas or scenes from them.
The bus scene from You're Beautiful gets me every single time. Jeremy is so sweet and innocent so seeing him having his heart broken is too much. My feels can't take it.
Secret is very emotional for me too. This is a drama I have to watch all the way through. I don't like just watching scenes.
Secret Garden always gets me too. So much sacrificing for your loved one. It is beautiful.
Can You Hear My Heart. This is the ultimate I need to be alone and cry drama for me. It is an awesome drama and is great for letting all of my emotions out.
There are so many more that I can name and may at a later date but my family needs me right now so I'm off to be with them. When I return from visiting my parents I will be watching Can You Hear My Heart for sure. I need it. What do you watch when you need a good cry?
Topless Tuesday will have to be Topless Wednesday this week. I'm visiting my parents and have not had the chance to even think of who I want to feature let alone write a post so I will do it tomorrow. Who do you think I should feature? I'll gladly take suggestions!
It's almost the weekend, ya'll! Friday can be the hardest day of the week, though, because you have to go through the torture of school and/or work before you can enjoy your weekend and the day tends to drag. So, to cheer ya'll up we're going to have Fighting Friday! Let the silliness begin!
Big Byung's Stress Come On! I listen to this song and watch the video more than I should but it cheers me up! The boys are funny in the video and the lyrics are too. You should check it out if you're having a hard day.
How about some of my favorite Kdrama memes? You could still use a smile right?
Finally, one of my favorite goofy pictures of one of my Kdrama biases and one of my Kpop biases.
What do you do to cheer yourself up and get through a hard day?
Guys, guys, guys! Who else loves The Princess Bride? I mean, everyone right? RIGHT?! Of course! I know we all love Kdramas too so I thought I would pick a cast for the Korean version of The Princess Bride! I combined two things that I love and now I want to see it for real! Someone get on this!
First we have Song Ji Hyo as Buttercup! The last drama I saw Song Ji Hyo in was Emergency Couple and she played a matter of fact woman who knew what she wanted and stood up for it. Buttercup knew she did not want to marry Prince Humperdinck and did anything she could to get out of the marriage. I think that they look similar as well. Their chin, lips, nose, and eyes are very similar.
Next I chose Lee Dong Wook as Wesley. I'm watching Lee Dong Wook in Blade Man right now. His character has a temper but he also has a sweet side, especially when he is in love. Granted Dong Wook's character expresses his anger differently but you get the idea. Wesley is like that too! You don't want to make him angry and he is so sweet to his Buttercup. Oh and you may think I'm crazy but these two have similar faces too. Their jaws, noses, eyes, and lips are very similar. Wouldn't you say? In my humble opinion, though, Dong Wook takes the prize for looks.
Who do I have for Inigo Montoya? Han Jung Soo! Look at this picture. It screams Inigo Montoya and was actually the picture that inspired this post. I'm watching Jung Soo in Blade Man as Secretary Ko and he is rocking his role. I have a huge major fangirl crush on him right now. What was I saying? Oh! Secretary Ko is fiercely loyal to Hong Bin as Hong Bin's assistant because Hong Bin saved his sister. Inigo Montoya is fiercely loyal to his family too and I have a feeling if something happened to Secretary Ko's family he would go after the person who caused it.
Who else loves Fezzik? He is so awesome and so is Ko Chang Seok as Jo Jung Mi in Good Doctor. While Ko Chang Seok doesn't have Fezzik's height he is an intimidating guy that people have a hard time approaching. In Good Doctor he is a pediatric nurse who is a big softie with the kids but tough when he needs to be. Fezzik is the same way. Big and intimidating but he cares for people in a big way too.
I would like Kim Kwang Kyu to play Vizzini. Now, I haven't seen Kim Kwang Kyu play an evil character but I think he could do it well. In Boarding House No. 24 he is playing a man who created an elaborate plot to get six people who may be his children to live at his boarding house. He anticipates their every move just like Vizzini anticipated Wesley's moves in The Princess Bride. I know that ended up in failure for him but it hasn't for Kwang Kyu so far. Ha ha!
I was hesitating about choosing Lee Min Ho for Prince Humperdinck. I know Gu Jun Pyo was not exactly like Prince Humperdinck but there were similarities so try to stay with me. Prince Humperdinck and Jun Pyo were both spoiled men who wanted something and plotted all kinds of things to get what they wanted. They were both used to people waiting on them for everything and not used to being rejected or hearing someone tell them no. Also, the hair. I mean look at the hair. Hee hee! They actually look similar too. Jaws, mouths and foreheads. I'm sure there is a better Prince Humperdinck but Lee Min Ho popped in my mind and wouldn't leave so there you have it.
I haven't seen Mandate of Heaven so I didn't know that Lee Dong Wook and Song Ji Hyo were in it together but look! They're holding hands just like Buttercup and Wesley! See? SEEEEEEEEE?! That means I did a good job, right?! Tell me I did a good job. Please? Hee hee!
So I know you all won't agree with my choices. Let me know who you would cast in the Korean version of The Princess Bride!
I can't concentrate on my "My Lovable Girl" recap because I'm distracted by the evil Jae Young hottie so I thought I'd do an evil kdrama hotties post. Some are completely evil and some aren't but they try their best so stop giving them a hard time! Gosh!
First, Kim Jin Woo since I'm distracted by his character Jae Young in My Lovable Girl.
So this next one turned evil for good reason and then became good again but even when he was evil I shipped him with the female lead which is rare for me. Nam Goong Min who played the kind of evil Jang Joon Ha in "Can You Hear My Heart?".
He has the sweetest smile and then bam!
This. I mean. What was I saying?
Finally (for now), Lee Tae Sung who played the evil Yong Tae Mu in Rooftop Prince.
I'm not liking how photo-shopped his face looks but, you know, hot so don't touch!
My Lovable Girl. This is my first recap all by myself so forgive me for my mistakes. I'll improve as I go. Well, that is the plan anyway. I'll give my opinion after the recap. Let's get started!
We did not get a happy beginning. Hyun Wook and his girlfriend Yoon So Eun were on the way to Hyun Wook's father's and were arguing. So Eun wanted to break up with Wook because she believed that he had slept with a singer whose song he produced. Hearing that she wanted to break up Wook got upset and pulled over. He got out of the car and there was a car accident. So Eun was killed leaving Wook holding her while crying and apologizing.
We fast forward three years and Hyun Wook's neighbor is trying to get herself a man. Hyun Wook cooks for her and she invites him to her place for some "wine". Uh huh. We all see through you lady. Hyun Wook lets her down saying he has a 1983 woman despite the neighbor not seeing him with a woman since he has lived there. Shin Hae Yoon then entered and the neighbor assumed this was Wook's woman and left. She wasn't too happy. Can you blame her?
Here we are with Hae Yoon. She has known Wook for twelve years so she is automatically in line for his love right? That also means she gets to boss him around and tell him to come back to Seoul because she found him after all. Wook tells Hae Yoon that he won't do it because of music and love and then she kisses him but Wook does not return her feelings. Sorry girl. You're not getting this one. It would be better for you to accept that now but you won't.
Here is So Eun's sister Se Na after she left her job because loan sharks were chasing after her. She works part time jobs and seems to be into music if the guitar is an indication of that. Unfortunately since So Eun passed away Se Na is all alone and doesn't have anyone to lean on. She called her sister's old cell phone which actually rang and Wook answered silently. Why she kept talking I don't know but that phone call tore Wook up because Se Na is so lonely. Se Na went to her friend's house to stay and asked to borrow her friend's name so that she can avoid the loan sharks. Se Na manages to find a job at a hotel where she is able to comfort a crying little girl by playing Twinkle Little Star on drinking glasses.
Wook decides that he needs to hire someone to find Se Na because of that phone call. He wants to help her out because she is all alone but doesn't know where to begin looking for her and that is why he was enlisting help. You can tell that So Eun's death still pains him and that he feels responsible for it. When Wook meets his friend for drinks the friend tries to convince Wook not to find the girl because the friend feels like there is no point but Wook won't listen. The song that was playing during the accident that killed So Eun started to play and Wook had a panic attack and had to leave the bar.
Wook is taking his dog on a walk around the hotel grounds when his dog gets off of the leash. Of course the dog runs to Se Na who proceeds to sing to the dog to cheer him up because he looks so tired. Wook tells her that the song sounds good and Se Na asks what the dog's name is. When she says the dog's name, Dal Bong, the dog jumps on her and we get the classic guy catches the girl before she falls sequence. Oh the cheese. I keep coming back, though! The next day Wook calls Se Na to ask her to watch Dal Bong because Dal Bong has fallen for her.
Oh, look! It is the lady who wants the man but won't get him. She still thinks that she will because she apparently does not catch on quickly. Anyway, she came to pick Wook up for lunch and when Se Na came to watch Dal Bong she got all smug because Wook said he was waiting for another woman and obviously he would not go for someone who works at a hotel. She even tipped Se Na. Oh you poor girl.
While Se Na is watching Dal Bong she is concerned because he isn't eating anything. She decides that she must be the one who is hungry so she starts to snack on a sausage and then gives the whole thing to Dal Bong. I mean, wouldn't we all? I can't resist sad dog eyes. Dal Bong collapsed and was taken to the veterinarian where he was diagnosed with cancer. Poor Wook. To make Dal Bong's last days happy Wook tells Se Na that she will be Dal Bong's caretaker and proceeds to give her an elaborate list of what Dal Bong can and can not eat things like organic food and local chicken with no additives. She often has to redo and make changes to Dal Bong's food if it doesn't meet Wook's satisfaction and her coworkers who once envied her begin to feel bad for her. Wook does not let Se Na know that Dal Bong has cancer.
Se Na is into music! I neglected to mention that Hae Yoon is at the hotel because she works for ANA which is the company that manages a group called Infinite Power. Infinite Power is going to do a concert at the hotel and Se Na is trying to record a song that she wrote so that she can share her demo with an ANA representative. It doesn't start out well, however, because she can't stop thinking about Wook and the crazy demands he has concerning Dal Bong's care. The night of the concert Se Na asks a coworker to trade places and watch Dal Bong for a bit while she tries to get her demo to someone from ANA. Wook is at Se Na's place after getting a phone call that she is living with her friend there and is still unaware that Se Na is So Eun's sister. Se Na's friend even denies knowing her.
Hae Yoon calls Wook back to the hotel because she has something urgent to tell him. Why can't you tell him over the phone if it is that urgent? If it is urgent you should tell the person right away. I really don't get it when they do things like that. Anyway, Wook's dad is there and Wook is less than thrilled to see him. Wook and his dad treat each other coldly talking about Wook's decision to be on his own and then Wook gets up to leave. Hae Yoon goes after him and tells him to make up with his father because his father is sick but then there is an announcement that Dal Bong is missing and Wook goes to the front desk to find out what is going on.
Completely unaware that Dal Bong is missing Se Na is going about her business when these two come outside. Shi Woo is in Infinite Power and he has had his eyes on this girl since the after party started. Ra Eum, however, has not even looked at him and has been dancing with another guy (Rae Hoon) the whole time. Shi Woo grabbed Ra Eum and brought her outside telling her not to dance with Rae Hoon. Ra Eum informs him that they just had a fling and completely rejects him after he tells her that he likes her. Se Na witnessed all of this and while Shi Woo was checking her to make sure she didn't have a phone or camera to record him, he found her demo. This makes him angrier than he already is and he drags her into the party ready to embarrass her.
After playing the beginning of her CD, which is an introduction to a song about love at first sight, Se Na stops it. Shi Woo wants to know why she did that and Se Na tells him that she does not want her music introduced that way. He asks if she wanted to seduce someone and play it in their room and then bam! She slaps the dude AND calls him a piece of trash. Se Na apologizes for disrupting the party and leaves. Shi Woo follows her and Se Na tells him that she only wanted to meet an ANA representative, not lurk around celebrities. She says he must be embarrassed because she saw him being rejected. That set Shi Woo off but his manager came out just in time to take him away and avoid an incident.
Right after that Wook appears and is upset that Dal Bong is missing and she switched places with someone instead of watching Dal Bong herself. I can't say that I blame Wook for being upset. He trusted her to watch Dal Bong and she didn't do it. Don't get me wrong, I know Se Na wanted to give her demo to an ANA rep but that doesn't give her an excuse to leave Dal Bong to someone Wook doesn't know and trust. Wook caught her at a bad time, though, and Se Na questions why everyone is so upset with her and why everyone is taking their anger out on her. Dal Bong is found but Se Na still gets fired.
Right after Wook leaves Se Na he gets a call that Se Na is working under the name Joo Hong and works at the hotel Wook is staying at. He goes after Se Na and finds her at the bus stop. Wook calls the number that had called So Eun's sister and confirms that Se Na and Joo Hong are the same. Se Na and Wook meet eyes and the episode ends!
There you have it folks. My first recap! Now for my opinion. There are a lot of things that I'm enjoying about this show so far and some that I'm not. I really like that Se Na stands up for herself while being a warm person who enjoys taking care of others. I completely understand her drive to be a songwriter but I think she has to fulfill her current responsibilities even if they get in the way. There is a time and place for everything. She obviously has some growing up to do despite her otherwise mature appearance.
I thought that when we were introduced to Wook after the three year time period he was going to be a play boy but I'm glad he wasn't. It is sad that he is still having such a hard time getting over So Eun's death to the point that he even has anxiety attacks. I agree with his friend that he doesn't have to take responsibility for Se Na but I do understand why he wants to. He is obviously feeling guilty and wants to make up for Se Na's loss.
I'm looking forward to getting to know Shi Woo's character more. I know he came off like a jerk but I can understand why he got aggravated with Se Na. To him she was another person trying to use his celebrity to get into the music business and he had just been rejected my the girl he likes. I don't get that girl. What is wrong with a guy saying he likes you? I liked it when the guy did that. I still like hearing it from my husband even though we've been married eleven years!
So far this is a drama that I could either really get into or get tired of because I know what is going to happen and I'm ready for it to come already. Ha ha! It all depends on how the characters progress and how attached I get to them. When I watched Mary Stayed Out All Night for example, I got attached to the characters and kept watching for them even though I knew what would happen. Plus Jang Keun Suk is just purdy. Rain and Shi Woo are purdy too. There are a lot of purdy people in this drama. That is nice.
So what do you think? Are you enjoying My Lovable Girl so far? I'm curious about what happened before Wook and So Eun were going to meet his father and what happened after the accident. I know we'll get to know Shi Woo more but what about Ra Eum and Rae Hoon? Why are they acting like that? There has to be a reason right? There always is in drama land!
On another note, I can not get Rain's 30Sexy out of my head. Like it has been on repeat since I watched this episode so I thought I'd share the video. Enjoy!
